FELV Feline leukaemia you’d never guess their mother carried a virus deadly to Cats and these could too. Note to all these who source kittens from any old place or let their cat have litters you’re not quite as clever as you think you are.
Velvet their mum suddenly collapsed so it was rush to Vets.
Sadly Velvet couldn’t be saved she had feline leukaemia, this could be a death sentence for her kittens too but we aren’t just going to immediately put them to sleep, we will give them every chance and will get tests done in a month or so but sadly we won’t be homing them they will stay with us and isolated until either they test negative or show signs of illness. Huge thanks to the as always fabulous Darlington Vet Clinic. 😓😓😓😓😓 Poor girl had no chance lived on the streets got pregnant had five kittens then thankfully someone saught help for her but it was just to late the virus coupled with kittens overwhelmed her 😓😓. RIP Velvet 😓😓😓😓 #pleaseibegyouneuteryourcats
Velvet had shown no signs of illness before collapse she was a loving cat and very good mum to her kittens, at one point Velvet will have had an owner a irresponsible owner that didn’t bother to neuter or vaccinate her against deadly diseases.
Yes all the statistics point to them having the virus but I have seen kittens then go on to be negative and be fine so there is a glimmer of hope they could fight it off. If not they’ll enjoy life until it makes them sick. The majority of FELV kittens who contract virus from mother don’t live past 12 to 13 mths. As opposed to cat who get it later who can live six or seven years till develop tumours. When I first started rescue it was rife before the vaccine was available then thanks to vaccination cases were rare but now it’s increasing again because of the higher number of cat population and the irresponsible cat owners who don’t neuter never mind vaccinate.
