In 1998 Cats R Us faced a battle with Toys R us to keep our name, we won that battle and have helped thousands of cats since but now we face another Battle.
Summer is coming and summer sees an army of abandoned and unwanted neglected kittens needing the charity’s help, a registered charity we receive no government funding and rely entirely on our fundraising and kind donations from the public without a surge in donations we are going to be unable to help as many of these kittens as need us as we are running out of funds.
Cats R Us already struggles just to pay the daily costs of food and litter for cats in care, ones like long stay Huwey with Pemphigus requiring daily medication, older cats like nineteen year old Buster and Snowy the white cat with cancer as well of the stream of cats that come into care who we then prepare and find forever homes for. Feral Colonies that we feed daily 365days a year there are lots of feral colonies that need that extra support we provide in feeding as well as neutering.
Sadly our fundraising store at South West Durham Business Centre , Dabble Duck, Shildon DL4 2QN which is open Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday 10am till noon simply doesn’t raise enough funds for us to cover all cost involved in rescue and unless we get an increase in donations we are going to be unable to continue. Donations of cat food help enormously too, donate the cat food your cat won’t eat, buy and extra tin of food when shopping a little bit really does go a long way as well as monetary donations.

Kittens are adorable but a big commitment of 15yr at least. Let’s face it some relationships don’t last that long so adopt responsibly as we get so many kittens that have already had at least three homes before they even get to us at only a few weeks old. Many pet cats find it to hot to eat on these sunny days but not our rescue cats they always know when it’s feed time 😺.
After receiving an email about an injured cat last night we were very concerned as couldn’t get there last night and this morning had news someone had been and looked but nothing there. It wasn’t till this afternoon we realised they hadn’t pinpointed right location so off we went with a determination to find the Cat but a sinking feeling in pit of our stomachs that it would likely be dead by now. Amazingly we found the cat and our volunteer Amanda crawled down embankment to get it. Safely at Vets now , sadly quite a few injuries of bruising and scrapes but leg is badly smashed and will have to be amputated 😓. Found in ditch on A68 dual carriageway from Shildon to Darlington anyone thinking may be their cat will need to prove ownership. Owner will know sex and other details.
It’s been a busy year so far so sorry for lack of updates. We seem to have become a bit of a care/retirement home for the old and weak. Winston recently came to us from another charity as his needs are quite complex he loves his food, drools for England, doesn’t move about much apart from sofa to food and litter tray. Snowy is now almost toothless as well as ear surgery a shy girl she likes her food even though sometimes it’s an effort for her to eat it. Clouds back is healing well though she then decided to rive her neck open so had more steroid and antibiotics and has recently opened old wounds but I got a very good treatment that seems to have calmed it all down. Fingers crossed. Buster the old boy is 18 needs lots of reassurance and to have a paw on you so he knows your there. He eats very little so we make sure he has most nutritious food and supplements. None of these cats are available for adoption and yes we are aware some would be deemed at the end of their lives but we will give them the best care for however long they have.
